Brief -

Marmalade has worked on a number of Universal Album Launches in a design and art direction capacity including: Perfect Symmetry (Keane); Time (Rod Stewart); No Line On The Horizon (U2); Fallen Empires (Snow Patrol); and Cornucopia (Annie Lennox).

Solution -

The concept for all the events captures in varying degrees the essence of the albums themselves. For Keane’s album, symmetry lay at the heart of the album. We created a series of dramatic installations including a 10m long half image of a sleeping woman, pasted on to 100 cardboard boxes and then reflected in mirror tiles on the floor to reveal a full figure, accompanied by the recording of a beating heart. For Snow Patrol’s Fallen Empires, we designed, built and installed the word EMPIRE as 2m highly distressed, flickering and smoldering letters across the front of the legendary Shepherd’s Bush Empire music venue. The installation reflected both the name of the venue and the album title. As the sun set the installation came to life with billowing smoke, loud crackling and pyrotechnics.
